The four-towered baroque jewel, embedded in an extensive pond and park, invites you to dream. Especially in winter, the silhouette of the castle, which served as the backdrop for the fairytale film “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella”, enchants its visitors. In addition to the nearby Fasanenschlösschen, unique events such as the large stallion parade, which recalls the breeding tradition in the electoral stables, or the large fairytale exhibition on the winter dream “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” are important highlights.
The palace chapel, built in 1661 under Elector Johann Georg II and later consecrated as a Catholic church, is still a place of regular worship today. Elector Augustus the Strong had grand plans for Moritzburg Palace: he wanted to build a “Temple of Diana”, surrounded by exotic animal enclosures and staged naval battles on the palace pond. After his death, the conversion remained unfinished, but the overall work of art of architectural clarity and scenic harmony remains impressive to this day.
